Award-winning day

Thanks to the painting skills of Okanagan artist Bernie Bates, Castanet Vernon secured the first runner up for the professional window painting category for the Vernon Winter Carnival.

The Best Decorated Premises encourages area businesses to decorate their storefronts in the spirit of carnival.

The overall winner of the Best Decorated Premises contest was Venture Connection, which also won for long-term adult care.

The theme this year is Wonderland, with Castanet going for an Alice in Wonderland window painting depicting staff as members of the timeless tale.

Karen Vassberg delivered the award to Castanet and said there were some very strong entrants this year in a variety of categories.

“They were amazing from window paintings to actors to singing contests,” she said. “It was absolutely amazing.”

Vassberg pointed out Buy Low Foods in Okanagan Landing for its efforts this year.

“Buy Low Foods had 13 hand-painted items throughout the store, it was absolutely amazing. We love the spirit here in Vernon,” said Vassberg.
