Safety demo at the Star

SilverStar Mountain Resort will be the safest place in the country when numerous emergency crews set up on the popular ski hill.

Nine of the Vernon region’s most skilled emergency services teams will present demonstrations and showcases during the Star’s Emergency Services Day, Saturday, Feb. 17.

The demonstrations will include a rope rescue, how to build a snow shelter and much more.

The day-long event honours first responders and everyone who steps up to help people in crisis situations, Emergency Services Day features first-hand the skills and equipment brought into action to assist those in need.

“The day showcases the skills and equipment of our local first responders. Demonstrations will be done by the RCMP, Vernon Search and Rescue, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, Shuswap Search and Rescue, SilverStar Ski Patrol, FACTS First Aid, St John’s Ambulance and the B.C. Dragoons,” said Brad Baker, SilverStar operations director.

Emergency services team demonstrations are scheduled every half hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the demonstration day, SilverStar will be donating $20 from every full-day adult alpine lift ticket sold to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.

“SilverStar’s Emergency Services Day is a great community event that highlights the dedication our first responders have for the well-being of our community and SilverStar’s commitment to supporting health care for all North Okanagan residents,” said Lisa Westermark, VJH Foundation executive director.
