RDNO recycling changes

Changes are in the works for what can be recycled at RDNO Recycling Drop Centres.

Waste Connections of Canada Inc., the contractor for the RDNO Recycling Drop Centres, has stated that due to changes in global markets, and an increase in control guidelines from
purchasers, hardcover books and plastic film can no longer be accepted in recycling bins at the RDNO recycling and disposal facilities.

These items are now considered to be contamination.

Dale Danallanko, RDF Operations Manager says this change only occurs at the recycling drop centres at landfills and transfer stations in the RDNO.

"Hardcover books and plastic film are not accepted in the Recycle BC curbside program anyway. So this change does not affect the current curbside program in the RDNO."

Residents are encouraged to educate themselves regarding what materials are accepted for recycling at Recycle BC Depots and at RDNO Recycling Drop Centres and to keep their recyclables clean and contamination free.
