Sagmoen bail hearing

A man who has become a flashpoint for violence against women protests will remain behind bars for at least a few more weeks.

Curtis Wayne Sagmoen is facing numerous charges relating to an incident on Aug. 28, 2017, where he allegedly threatened a sex trade worker with a firearm near Falkland.

The woman managed to escape and contacted police.

The charges include intentionally discharging a firearm and uttering threats to a sex trade worker.

Sagmoen has already elected to be tried by judge alone on those charges.

Sagmoen has been in custody since his arrest in October 2017, but that could change at a Feb. 19 bail hearing in a Vernon courtroom.

All but one of his court appearances have been met by protesters from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women group denouncing violence against women.

Other allegations of violent acts against women by Sagmoen have also been made.

Sagmoen has also been associated with a farm near Silver Creek on Salmon River Road where the remains of Traci Genereaux were found.

The farm is owned by Sagmoen's parents.

RCMP said the death of the 18-year-old Vernon woman is being considered suspicious, but no connection to Sagmoen has been made.

Genereaux was one of five women reported missing in the North Okanagan-Shuswap area.

Ashley Simpson, Deanna Wertz, Nicole Bell and Caitlin Potts have all gone missing in less than two years from the North Okanagan-Shuswap area.
