Homeless camp cleared

Josh Winquist

The homeless camp on Highway 97 and 48th Ave. in Vernon has been shut down.

The Ministry of Transportation provided the occupants with an eviction notice 48-hours ago.

One man who stayed at the camp said he now has nowhere to go.

"I can't do 80 people at the Howard House."

The crews removing the camp, who were subcontracted by the Ministry, say it will take two or three days to clear.

At one point the camp swelled to around 25 people.

At the time the eviction notice was posted there were four to five people still staying at the camp.
