Building better partnerships

A Vernon councillor will be heading to Winnipeg next month to take part in the Indigenous Municipal Partnership Summit.

Julliette Cunningham will travel to the Prairie city Feb. 21-22 along with OKIB Chief Byron Louis where they will meet with officials from across Canada.

“I think it's basically giving information on how municipalities can do partnerships with Indigenous communities,” said Cunningham. “There will be examples there how, across the country, how municipalities have worked with bands and helped them with projects to improve their economic development opportunities.”

Cunningham said the summit will help provide insight on how to create partnerships.

“I think we have a good relationship with the OKIB. We meet on a regular basis with them,” said Cunningham.
