Local man invents game

A local man has designed a board game that's suitable for all ages.

Gambit Board is simple but winning takes guile, strategy and a little bit of luck, according to the Facebook page.

The game board itself is a long board and it has these pivots that you run your marbles down," said Paul Cousins, Gambit Board designer. "You need to get the row of marbles at your end all the way to your opponents at the other end."

The game has seen international attention.

"The game has been previewed by a couple of different game designers over in Europe and they determine it to be an 'ancient game' because there is nothing in it that couldn't have been invented 8,000 years ago," Cousins said.

By the end of February or early March Cousins plans to have an event featuring the game.

"The idea is to have a tournament where everyone is being introduced to the game at the same time and the victors are going to be the ones who figure it out first," Cousins said.

Gambit Board has been compared to games like Chess and Checkers.

"Anyone that can count to six can play it and it's a lot of fun," Cousins said. "It's something that a great-grandparent could play with a great-grandchild."

The game is currently for sale exclusively at Pink Spotted Goat in Vernon for $40.
