Summer's day at the Star

Chantelle Deacon

Vernon was well below freezing on Tuesday, but at Silver Star Mountain Resort, temperatures were just below zero.

"We're 10 degrees warmer up here at Silver Star," said Oscar Gordon, media/marketing, Silver Star. "The sun is shining and we've got great snow."

In downtown Vernon, the temperature sat at about -12 C during the day but at the mountain, it felt a whole lot warmer at -3.5 C.

"It's incredible, this inversion," said Gordon.  "I have been talking to some of the guys who have been here 20 or 30 years and they have never seen anything quite like it."

Snow is in the forecast for the mountain, with temperatures expected to warm up towards the end of the week.

"We're looking forward to more snowfall," Gordon said.

Silver Star is celebrating its 60th anniversary and that means lots of family friendly events scheduled.

"We've got some fantastic events going on up here at Silver Star," Gordon said. "We have started doing free Friday movie night."

Silver Star is anticipating a busy year on the slopes and is prepared for a snowy season.

"We've got a whole bunch of 'Rippers' activities, young kids going out there perfecting their skills," he said. "We've got the backside open, it's never been better, plenty of skiing and boarding, plus of course fatbiking, snowshoeing, ice skating and Tube Town."
