Holiday robberies

Vernon RCMP have released still images from two separate robberies that took place over the holiday season.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve, RCMP received a call of an armed robbery at the Petro Canada Gas Station on Highway 6 in Lavington.

A lone male armed with a wrench or tool entered the store and demanded cash from the employee. The male fled in a dark coloured vehicle with a small amount of cash.

"Vernon RCMP Members responded to the scene and were provided with a description of the male and the vehicle he fled in," said Const. Kelly Brett. "Unfortunately the suspect and vehicle were not located; however, the employee was smart, complied with the male’s demands and remained unharmed in this incident."

On January 1st, just before 9 p.m., RCMP received a call to yet another robbery that had just taken place at the Super Save Gas Station on 25th Ave in Vernon.

"A lone male entered the store, produced what the employee believed to be a handle of a gun and demanded all the money from the till. The employee complied with the male’s demands then the male suspect fled the area in a dark coloured SUV."

Brett said RCMP are treating both incidents as separate occurrences and have yet to determine if the suspect is the same person.

"There is good video surveillance from both robberies and the investigators are still trying to determine if the robberies are connected ... Both incidents are still under investigation at this time.
