Members of the Vernon Search and Rescue were surprised with a brand new piece of equipment at their Christmas Party Thursday night.
The volunteer group recently won the $20,000 side-by-side all-terrain vehicle in the KIOTI Tractor 'First Responders Shout Out' video competition, where they garnered thousands of votes online, beating out first responder groups across North America.
“It means so much to us, this is going to be such a useful tool,” said Leigh Pearson, VSAR search manager.
VSAR members cheered when their headquarter garage doors opened Thursday night to reveal the brand-new KIOTI Mechron UTV.
The new equipment will be put to good use.
“We'll use it to haul men and equipment into sites, we can load patients on it and stretchers and haul them out if we need to, it's just awesome,” Pearson said.
