Ice causes Vernon crashes

Black ice appears to be the cause of two single vehicle crashes, one after the other, in a northbound lane of Highway 97 south of Vernon on Sunday.

Emergency crews were called just after 12 p.m. to a two-vehicle accident near the turnoff to the garbage dump, but Captain Chris Robinson of Vernon Fire Rescue said it was actually two single-vehicle crashes.

"There was a little of black ice at the top of the hill," said Robinson. "She hit the ice and did a couple of spins."

Robinson said both drivers were female and there were no injuries.

He said one lane was closed for a time and there was minor damage to one of the vehicles.
