Still time to help VSAR

Time is running out to help Vernon Search and Rescue get a much-needed piece of equipment.

VSAR has entered a contest to win a $20,000 KIOTI Mechron UTV for the busy volunteers that goes out in all kinds of weather to look for lost or injured individuals.

And all the group needs to win are votes.

People can vote online until 9 p.m. tonight to help VSAR win the coveted prize.

“This would be a huge addition for us,” said Trevor Honigman with VSAR, adding VSAR is a volunteer group that fundraises for all of its equipment so getting the Mechron would be a tremendous benefit.

VSAR has quads and other such equipment, but nothing like the Mechron.

The contest has been open to first responders throughout North America and the group with the most votes wins and VSAR is in the running to win, but needs every vote it can get.

“For getting men, materials and first aid gear to the back country, we take big trucks. But we may have to stop one or 10 km away from the actual site of the incident. A lot of the time, if we can't get reach there, we have to take all of that equipment in by hand or on our backs or on ATVs,” said Honigman, adding if they win the machine, it will be modified to allow it to carry a stretcher.
