The smokey haze that is visible throughout the Thompson and Okanagan areas is coming from several large fires burning in Washington State. The smoke is expected to disperse and move eastwards by the afternoon.
The fires are approximately 80 kilometres south west of Osoyoos and pose no threat to any Canadian forests or communities.
The B.C. Forest Service asks that the public do not call the fire reporting line to report the smoke haze in the area. For more information on fires in the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest area please go to www.inciweb.org/forest/4984.
