Next move for Funtastic?

The Funtastic Sports Society's annual general meeting takes place Tuesday night, and changes are expected.

First, the society has to find a new general manager after Tony Pallas resigned before his contract ran out in November.

Before being hired in November, 2015, Pallas had acted as operations manager of the Vancouver Sun Run, the second largest 10K road race in North America, and had also been involved with the 2010 Olympics and past CFL Grey Cup events, according to information supplied by Funtastic.

Pallas confirmed his resignation in a telephone call.

“I did resign,” Pallas said. “The direction the board of directors is driving the society and my efforts to manage it did not align.”

He refused further comment.

Last year, a new board of directors called for a more family friendly slo-pitch tournament. The tourney has relied heavily on the rock music and beer garden portion of its event for a number of years.

Board president Diana Williamson also confirmed Pallas' resignation, stating, “he was going in a different direction, the new board is going in a different direction.”

Williamson could not say whether this year's tournament finished in the red or black in terms of finances. Both she and another board member said the financial statement was not ready and would not be presented at the AGM.

“It did ok this year,” Williamson said. “You always want to do better.”

She said one problem was the short, 12-month term for members of the board and agreed that a longer term would be more helpful.

The AGM takes place at the Schubert Centre at 7 p.m.
