Granny's charity skydive

A daredevil grandmother joined her daughter and granddaughter in a freefall skydive this month over Vernon, all in the name of charity.

Anne Foster, 85, from Summerland, was part of a family team who took part in the stunt.

The Free Fall for Africa event, took place July 8 in association with Okanagan Skydive and local charity Hope for the Nations.

It raised more than $6,100 for equipment and school supplies for a school in Tanzania. Construction of the school is nearing completion, and it will eventually accommodate 500 students.

Cathleen Loge, Anne's daughter, dreamed up the scheme when pondering what to do for her birthday. The family then started collecting pledges.

“It was fantastic to witness the commitment that all our skydivers had to the project, as they worked tirelessly to collect pledges and engage our communities in advocating for better access to education in Tanzania,” said Patricia Phillips, executive director of Hope. “We look forward to seeing the good that comes from this event and the difference it will make in the lives of the kids who will be attending the school.”

Donations are still being accepted online or contact Hope for the Nations at 250-712-2007 for details.
