Jailed for holding senior

A man has been given more jail time for holding a senior citizen in Vernon against his will in March of last year.

Gregory Philip Jolicoeur, 51, appeared last Thursday in B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops and was sentenced after being found guilty of forcible confinement and break and enter.

Jolicoeur was one of two men who broke into a residence in the Bella Vista area on March 19, 2016.

An 83-year-old man living on the premises was tied up and robbed before the assailants fled in the homeowner's Winnebago.

However, the elderly man was able to free himself and call police.

Jolicoeur and Maurice Pierre Perrier, 47, were spotted a short time later and were arrested as they tried to flee.

A judge has ordered Jolicoeur to spend another 16 months in jail. He has already served more than a year (391 days) in prison and has been given credit for time served.

Jolicoeur was also given a 10-year firearms ban and ordered to submit his DNA.

Last November, Perrier was given an additional six months in jail after pleading guilty to break and enter in connection with the home invasion. Other charges against him were stayed by the Crown.
