Sinkhole repairs underway

City of Vernon crews are hoping the sinkhole that opened on 42nd Avenue on Saturday will be repaired and reopened to traffic by the end of the week.

Currently, 42 Avenue from 33 Street to Highway 97 is closed while repairs are completed.

City staff say the sink hole is approximately 1.3 metres in diameter and 0.6 metres deep.

"The City barricaded the sink hole after it was reported on Saturday, April 15," said Tanya Laing Gahr, city spokesperson. "Excavation around the sink hole will be completed today to determine what caused the failure."

The sinkhole suddenly opened on the weekend when the driver of a white Toyota truck rolled over the unfortunate spot and got a front wheel stuck.
