Cash for school district

The money just keeps on coming from the provincial Liberals.

The latest in a flurry of funding announcements has $1.6 million flowing into area schools.

Students in the Vernon school district will benefit with a school upgrade project, classroom supplies and a new school bus.

Clarence Fulton Secondary school will get more than $1 million in school enhancement program funding to upgrade the roof.

Under the new student learning grant, the district will receive $420,041 to purchase classroom equipment and supplies such as textbooks, lab equipment and art supplies.

The district will begin back-to-school planning with parents and teachers now to determine how best to use the one-time funding to reduce costs for parents and help teachers deliver B.C.'s new curriculum.

Students in the district will also benefit from a new 76-passenger school bus from $130,629 worth of funding from the school bus replacement program.

Every school district will receive a portion of this year's $53-million investment, supporting 223 projects.
