Vipers win opening game

The Vernon Vipers shook off the cobwebs and started their BC Hockey League playoff run with a win Friday at Kal Tire Place.

The Vipers were coming off a 20-day break, but managed to blank the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters 2-0 in the opening game of the BCHL Interior Division semi-finals.

The Smoke Eaters held the Vipers at bay until early in the third period when Jimmy Lambert put the Snakes up by one.

Darion Hanson stopped all 26 shots for the shutout.

An empty net goal with only second remaining sealed Trail's fate.

Game two goes tonight at Kal Tire Place before the best-of-seven series switches to Trail.
