Windfall for trade program

Youth trade programs in the North Okanagan received a $180,000 boost from the province.

The three-year investment will support youth trades programs with the purchase of new trades training equipment.

School District 22 will use the money to purchase heavy machinery, trades equipment and media arts equipment.

"Trades careers are a great option for youth who are passionate about making a difference in the everyday lives of British Columbians," said Gary Herman, CEO of Industry Training Authority. "Investments in youth trades training like this one are important to ensure our students are provided with opportunities to explore different trades careers to find the one that best suits their interests."

Fifty-nine B.C. school districts are receiving youth trades capital funding over the next three years, 42 of which are in rural B.C.
