Splatsin, SilverStar MOU

The Splatsin First Nation and SilverStar Mountain Resort have signed an memorandum of understanding to work to protect and enhance cultural resources on the mountain.

The agreement also opens discussion on economic opportunities for both parties.

Tsuqqwtsin, the name of the Silver Star Mountain area in the eastern Secwepemctsin dialect, is of cultural significance to the Splatsin and the Shuswap people.

The Shuswap travelled to the mountain for various cultural activities and hunting.

“This memorandum of understanding is an opportunity to work together in promoting sustainable eco-tourism in the region while protecting and enhancing Secwepemc culture in the resort area,” said Splatsin Chief Wayne Christian.

Ken Derpak, SilverStar's managing director said the MOU provides a framework to build a stronger resort community with a key strategic partnership.
