Cops probe school alert

North Okanagan RCMP are looking for a man who reportedly approached a ten-year-old boy from Armstrong Elementary after classes last Thursday and offered him a ride.

“(The) boy was walking home from school near Wolfenden Terrace in Armstrong when he was approached by a man in a black SUV and offered a ride,” said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy, RCMP spokesperson. “The boy declined, and the man drove away towards Rosedale Ave.

“The SUV was a smaller black SUV. The man was described as having dark brown hair and glasses.”

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 546-3028 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.

A safety bulletin was issued on the school's Facebook page and the principal was plannig to send home a letter to parents on Monday.

“It's definitely something that concerns us,” said Noseworthy. “The boy that was involved said he did not recognize the man so it's not a case of a neighbour seeing the someone walking and offering them a ride.

“We certainly would like to talk to the man and figure out what his motivations were.”
