UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.

Lake Country RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate a fatal accident between Lake Country and Vernon early Monday evening.

On Jan. 23 at 6:36 p.m., emergency crews rushed to the scene of the crash.

"Preliminary information at the scene suggests that a passenger vehicle, which had been northbound on Highway 97 North, left the roadway, went down a steep embankment and came to rest on Crystal Waters Road below," said Cont. Jesse O’Donaghey, RCMP spokesperson. "The injuries to the driver and sole female occupant of the vehicle proved to be fatal, sadly she perished at the scene."

O'Donaghey said the woman has been identified and efforts were being made to contact the family. No name has been released.

“Our investigators believe that there are potentially other motorists who may have witnessed this crash and have not yet come forward to police,” stated O’Donaghey. “The Lake Country RCMP are urging all witnesses to come forward with any information.”

A collision analyst and the RCMP's reconstructionist services (ICARS) section continue their investigation but few details have been released.

UPDATE: 8:55 a.m.

Police are looking for witnesses to Monday night's fatal crash on Highway 97 and are releasing few details of the scene "to protect its integrity." 

The driver, a woman headed northbound, drove over a steep embankment just after 6:30 p.m., crashing onto Crystal Waters Road below.

She died at the scene. 

“Our investigators believe that there are potentially other motorists who may have witnessed this crash and have not yet come forward to police,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The Lake Country RCMP are urging all witnesses to come forward with any information.”

Police and the BC Coroners Service are investigating. 

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or the moments leading up to it, to contact the Lake Country detachment at 250-766-2288.

The crash at Crystal Waters is reportedly a fatality.

A woman was killed in the crash.

Emergency crews are heading to the scene of a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 between Lake Country and Vernon.

Reports indicate a vehicle has gone down an embankment near the highway and Crystal Waters Road.
