Hometown Hockey fun

It was another day of Rogers Hometown Hockey events in Vernon Sunday, enjoyed by plenty of kids.

Girls and boys, from tots to teens, turned up to get autographs from former NHL pros and listen in as Sportsnet broadcast host Tara Slone interviewed Kirk McLean, Russ Courtnall and Brent Gilchrist.

"It's a great community," said Gilchrist, who grew up in Vernon.

"I played all my minor hockey a block and a half away from here," he added, pointing in the direction of the old Civic arena.

Kids were everywhere at the city hall site, playing hockey, playing games, and watching the travelling Hockey Circus Show where entertainer PAZ juggled flaming hockey sticks.

The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour includes a viewing party with Slone and well-known broadcaster Ron MacLean.

The broadcast was to begin with a special pre-game show hosted live on site by MacLean and Slone from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio beginning at 4 p.m. on Sportsnet, followed by a showdown between the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks.
