Sally Ann off the mark

Vernon's Salvation Army is looking to the community for donations as Christmas approaches.

“Yesterday, we hit the $214,000 mark for our campaign total,” reported Stefan Reid, House of Hope spokesperson. “We are still in need of donations, both monetary and children's gifts.”

Donations to the Kettle and letter campaigns are both down, acknowledged Reid.

The local branch has been hoping to collect $500,000 in donations over the holiday period to fund its food bank and programs for the needy over the next 12 months.

“Our Christmas Angel Tree program is in need of gifts and our distribution days are fast approaching.”

Reid said gifts for those who can't afford them will be handed out on Dec. 19-21.
