Rec Centre reopens

UPDATE: 12:55 p.m.

The Vernon Recreation Centre reopened in the noon hour Tuesday after being closed for five hours.

The City closed the facility at 7:30 a.m. when there were signs of a blockage in the main septic line, according to a press release.

City utility crews and recreation staff were able to determine the location of the blockage and remove the problem, said a spokesperson.

The Vernon Recreation Centre, including the pool and Halina Centre, has been closed due to mechanical issues, according to a City of Vernon press release.

A spokesperson says the facility will remain closed until the issues are resolved.

"A blockage was in a sewer line leading from the aquatic centre towards 35th Avenue," said Doug Ross, director of recreation services. "We have cleared the blockage and are now investigating the source."

Staff anticipate the centre will be reopened later today.
