Living legend to skate here

A Canadian figure skating icon is coming to town.

This likely to be Kurt Browning's last show in Vernon and he will be taking to the ice of Kal Tire Place for the Holiday Festival on Ice, Dec. 4.

"Tickets are on sale at www.ticketseller.ca and the buzz is big on this show,” said David Hesketh, show promoter. “Kurt Browning alone is worth the ticket. It is the only stop for this tour in B.C. Hope to see you there.”

Browning was both world champion and Canadian figure skating champion four times.

He represented Canada in three Winter Olympics, 1988 (finishing 8th overall), 1992 (6th) and 1994 (5th), and earned the privilege of carrying the Canadian flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway.

Browning's other achievements include three Canadian Professional Championships, three World Professional Championships, a Lou Marsh Trophy for top Canadian Athlete in 1990, two-time Lionel Conacher Award winner in 1990-91, Order of Canada recipient in 1990, American Skating World Professional Skater of the Year in 1998 and a Gustav Lussi Award from the Professional Skaters' Association in 2001.

Along with Browning, the show features:

  • Meryl Davis and Charlie White (USA) - 2014 Olympic gold medalists
  • Ekaterina (Katia) Gordeeva (RUS) - Two-time Olympic gold medalist
  • Jeffrey Buttle (CAN) - World Champion, Olympic medalist
  • Yuka Sato (JPN) - World Champion
  • Kaetlyn Osmond (CAN) - National Champion, Olympic Team silver medalist
  • Ryan Bradley (USA) - National Champion
  • Shawn Sawyer (CAN) - National silver medalist

The event is also a fundraiser for the North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society (NOYFSS).

NOYFSS offers services to children, youth and families at no cost to participants needing the services offered.
