Big win at Ultra-Tri

One of Vernon's own super-athletes was the top female finisher at the USA Ultra-Triathlon Quintuple Anvil in Richmond, Virginia, a race equivalent to five Ironman races.

Not only did Shanda Hill take the top spot in the women's division, placing fifth overall, but Hill was also the first Canadian woman to ever compete in the competition.

The incredible race, which began Oct. 10, included 900 kilometres of biking, 210 kilometres of running and 19 kilometres of swimming.

Racers have 132 hours to complete the gruelling race. Hill crossed the finish line in 117 hours, 46 minutes and 42 seconds.

Only 12 people were competing in the five-day race.

While five Ironman races at once might be enough for most people, Hill isn't like most people. Hill's partner, Lenny Winslow, says her next goal is the Deca, a race equivalent to 10 Ironmans.

For now though, Hill will most likely be taking some much-deserved time to rest.
