Vernon is set to become the most connected community in Western Canada.

Earlier this year, TELUS announced it is investing $35 million to connect more than 90 per cent of homes and businesses in Vernon directly to its fibre optic network. Construction began this spring, and TELUS anticipates connecting all homes and businesses before the end of the year.

Vernon is the first city to have access to the fastest home Internet speeds TELUS offers – 250 Mbps upload and download speed.

On Sept. 21 at the Schubert Centre, the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a seminar to explain what benefits such technology presents.

“Very simply, local businesses will be more productive leaving more time to dedicate towards growing their business, linking all their devices onto one platform, spending more time with customers and less time waiting,” said Dan Rogers, chamber general manager.

Larry Vanderveen, senior market manager, broadband networks and fibre optics for Telus is scheduled to present to business and community leaders interested in learning how the upgrade will benefit business, the community and the local economy.
