Doggone good fundraiser

Animal lovers are encouraged to come out to the BX Ranch Dog Park to help the local SPCA.

The annual Paws for a Cause event takes place Saturday and all of the money raised locally will stay with the Vernon SPCA.

Chelsea Taylor, Vernon SPCA branch manager, said people can bring their dogs, but the event is open to animal lovers of all description.

“We're really hoping to have a good turnout this year,” said Taylor. “We're walking to fight animal cruelty. We're inviting everyone to come up. Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your dog.”

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10.

The $20 registration fee will go toward supporting the SPCA as will any donated money received by the group.

“All the funds that we raise stay here in Vernon. They go toward supporting the animals that are in our care and supporting our cruelty department with the investigations and the work that they do.

“Cruelty happens to all animals, not just dogs and cats. It, unfortunately, is present across the spectrum of species so the funds that we raise go toward any animal.”

Registered participants will receive a race bib and a goody bag from Healthy Spot.

“We do encourage people to come down and bring cheques, and coins that they raised...we will take any donation available at the park as well.”
