Wish comes true

Five year-old Eli Johannson got his wish granted Wednesday – and it was a big one.

An ‘Optimus Prime’ transformer-themed playhouse, donated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon, was lifted through the air and onto the family’s Coldstream property.

The child was diagnosed with a Neuroblastoma tumour in 2013.

His mother, Faith, said the family spent nine months in Vancouver as Eli fought the disease and must return every six months to see how little boy is faring.

“We just got back from his six month checkup last Wednesday and he is still in full remission,” she said, patting her son on the head.

“We want to make the community aware of this day, as a thank you and show of appreciation both for the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well as the many people and businesses in Vernon and Coldstream who have supported our family for the last few years,” said Iain Johannson, Eli's dad.

An Alberta-based company called Charmed Playhouses constructed the playhouse, Armstrong Crane & Rigging Inc. lifted the structure into place and a team of Vernon firefighters put on the final touches.

All the time and effort was donated, according to a Make-A-Wish official at the launch.

“That’s the power of a wish,” said Ross Hetherington, Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon CEO. “When a child makes their unique wish, it’s always so wonderful to see the way communities will pull together to make a wish granting happen.

“Eli’s extended community has proved this power once again.”
