Two more suspicious fires

The number of suspicious fires continues to grow in the North Okanagan.

BX/Swan Lake fire crews were called to two more fires Sunday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. Crews were called to both fires within an hour of each other and both are suspicious.

BX/Swan Lake Fire Chief Bill Wacey said the most recent fires brings the number of suspicious fires to 14 over the past few months.

The latest fires were on Old Kamloops Road and on L&A Road, near McLennan Road where crews battled another suspicious wildfire Wednesday afternoon.

Numerous BX/Swan Lake firefighters, wildfire crews and two helicopters battled that blaze that worked its way into nearby woods and came with meters of a home.

Wacey said Sunday's fires started in the ditch along the side of the road and were progressing up hill when crews arrived.

Both fires were small and quickly put out by the volunteer fire department, but the growing number of fires is concerning.

“It is under some serious RCMP investigation,” said Wacey, adding he can not provide more detail because of the police investigation.

Anyone with information on any of the suspicious fires is urged to contact the RCMP or CrimeStoppers.
