Cyclists log 1,000s of miles

The North Okanagan Cycling Society has wrapped up riding for the summer.

Local mountain bikers logged thousands of miles during a Thursday night 'Toonie Ride', a weekly group ride encouraging riders of all abilities and ages to get out and cycle.

Last night marked the end to the regular season, attracting more than 50 people who tackled SilverStar Mountain Resort's newest loop trail called Beowolf.

A total of 18 group rides were held throughout the summer, attracting between 40-70 mountain bikers each time, said Dudley Coulter, the society's spokesperson.

“These group rides have truly become a staple in the community as a fun way to get outside and break up the work week,” said Coulter, society spokesperson.

Coulter said he knew of no other community in B.C. that had group rides to the size and scale of the local society.

Coulter thanked local bike shops; Sun Country Cycle, Olympia Cycle & Ski and Skyride for their support during the season.

And the bikes are not being put away yet. Upcoming events include a sponsored ride by Predator Ridge and an October Halloween Ghoul group ride for the family. More information can be found online
