Top 20 Under 40 sought

A program that recognizes Greater Vernon's young entrepreneurs is being thrown open to the whole of the North Okanagan.

Nominations for the Top 20 Under 40 are being received by the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce starting Tuesday, Aug. 16 until Friday, Sept. 2. Nominations are accepted online.

The chamber is looking for young professionals under the age of 40 who are making their mark through business success and community involvement.

“Last year, the response was overwhelming,” said Dan Rogers, the chamber's general manager. “There were close to 80 nominations.”

“The region is fortunate to have many young professionals and entrepreneurs who are rapidly becoming our next leaders and it's important for us as a community to recognize and foster their development,” said Murray Smith, partner with KPMG's Vernon office which is sponsoring the event.

“I think it is important for community pride, for communities to recognize that there are so many young, talented individuals living in this area,” said Tracy Cobb-Reeves, chamber president.

She said they were building a stronger local economy and supporting their region through volunteerism.

Starting Sept. 20th, for four weeks, recipients will be announced and then recognized at a special event on Oct. 20th during Small Business Week.

As well, the Chamber will recognize five rising stars who are under the age of 30 and have already made an impact in business.
