Young celebs to hit Vernon

Vernon will once again set the scene for another movie.

Drink Slay Love, a teen-vampire movie, will begin shooting in the North Okanagan city from Aug. 22 to Sept. 13.

Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland says the film is being produced by Vancouver-based Sepia Films, Los Angeles-based Just Singer Entertainment, and Co-Executive Producer Bella Thorne.

"We are very pleased to be hosting this full feature film production in the Okanagan. Sepia Films has brought 5 films to the Okanagan, the previous four being the popular Nightmare film series franchise,” Summerland said.

Starring in the film will be Cierra Ramirez, an acting, singing sensation, who made her stage debut at the Apollo Theatre at 10 years of age. She is best know for her roles in The Fosters, Girl in Progress, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Gregg Sulkin will also have a role. He has appeared in Faking it, Pretty Little Liars, The Wizards of Waverly Place and in the gritty crime drama Anti-Social.

Summerland said these stars are sure to shine a light on the Okanagan when they arrive to start production.

“Sulkin has over 4 million social media followers while Ramirez has over one million Instagram followers and  Thorne, who is one is one of the hottest teen actresses right now, has a combined 19 million followers on Twitter and Instagram. This social media magnitude will bring a lot of attention to Vernon and the Okanagan as a place to shoot film and television, and as a place to visit.”

Drink Slay Love is about a typical sixteen-year-old vampire named Pearl who is fond of blood, allergic to sunlight and generally pretty evil, until a unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn.

The film is directed by Vanessa Parise of Perfect High, Jack and Jill vs. the World and Kiss the Bride. Eirene Donohue writes the script, Tina Pehme and Kim C. Roberts are the producers.

Drink Slay Love will premiere on Lifetime and A&E in early 2017. Sepia also produced 2015’s Perfect High for Lifetime.
