Hey! The hay truck's on fire

BC Wildfire crews were called to the Mara Lake area after a hay truck caught fire.

The vehicle fire broke out Wednesday afternoon and forestry firefighters were called to extinguish the small blaze.

Fire information officer Rachel Witt said four firefighters were sent to the fire on Riverside Road.

“The fire from the vehicle did spread to the nearby field,” said Witt, adding the fire was not aggressive and crews quickly brought it under control.

No buildings were threatened.

“It was a spot-size fire,” said Witt.

Doug Smith lives across the road from where the fire was and said the hay was ignited from the exhaust pipe of the truck.

"Thank goodness forestry came, that's the only fire protection we have," said Smith. "If it was dryer or windier, it could have been a lot worse."
