A Mile High event

It’s the only event of its kind in the North Okanagan and it’s Canada’s highest outdoor wine tasting.

Blair Baldwin with Okanagan Wine Festivals said the Mile High Wine and Music event gives locals something that happens right in their own back yard.

“It plays to locals but also because you have that unique selling point of a wine tasting and live bands, it attracts tourists too. It works,” Baldwin said.

There will be more than 30 wineries pouring at SilverStar Mountain Resort on Aug. 13.

The resort is hosting a weekend of activities including a Friday night featured wine dinner, Sunday brunch and the main the Mile High main event on the Saturday.

Baldwin hopes there will be at least 500 people in attendance for the fourth annual event.

“We started with 300 people and grew it to 400 in year two and then last year there was 425 people,” he explained. “It plays to tourists because this is a major destination in the valley, but we also have locals who go up and stay over night.”

Canadian cheeses will also be served along side tasted treats by Browns Socialhouse Catering.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m., tickets are $60.
