Foster named candidate

MLA Eric Foster will be the Liberal candidate for the Vernon-Monashee riding in next year's provincial election.

The official announcement comes six weeks after the Liberal Party confirmed the incumbent would be running again.

Foster is the government whip and currently a member of the environment and land use committee. He also serves on the select standing committee of finance and government services and the legislative management committee.

The former mayor of Lumby has successfully run twice for the Liberal party. He was first elected in May 2009.

“My focus is to continue bringing people together, support small business, attract new tourism opportunities, invest in local arts and culture, green transportation and new infrastructure like never before,” said Foster, in a press release.

“Eric has been a strong advocate for the North Okanagan,” said lawyer Tom Christensen, former B.C. Liberal cabinet minister and local MLA. “It’s clear he has influence when you see things like his success in getting the new floors in our hospital opened much earlier than planned.”

“No question, our communities are changing, adapting, and growing. But there is still more work to be done,” said Foster.
