FMX rocks Canada Day

A display of leaps, twists and turns by professional dirt bike riders was the highlight of Vernon's Canada celebration in Polson Park.

The Rockstar Freestyle Motocross display had hundreds of viewers gasping as Reagan Sieg and Morgan Kaliszuk roared along the park's walking track, up a short jump that lifted them through the air onto a 75-foot ramp.

The two performed the Rock Solid, when they would completely let go of their bikes, the Seat Grab, the Bar Hop, and the Whip.

A sea of red and white T-shirts were on display throughout the park as others took in stage acts, participated in games, watched the Dogopogo canine agility displays and munched on food provided by local groups and vendors.

Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund showed some disappointment upon learning he wouldn't be sitting in the dunk tank – which was cancelled due to a shortage of volunteers.

The weather was a disappointment as well, with drizzle descending in the noon hour. That failed to lessen the crowd but rain set in just before 2 p.m.

Fireworks are expected to take place at Kal Beach at 10:30 p.m.

A free shuttle service to and from Kal Beach will run from 8-11:30 p.m.

Pick up will happen roughly every 30 minutes from Craftsman Collision, 2727-35th Ave., and every 20 minutes from the Okanagan College parking lot, 7000 College Way.
