A safe place to work

The City of Vernon is a safe place to work – again.

The city has been awarded a certificate of recognition (COR) and $61,052.80 in incentives following a successful 2015 audit by the BC Municipal Safety Association and WorkSafe BC.

This is the fifth year in a row the City has received the recognition, and over the course of that time has received $214,143 in incentives for maintaining COR status.

Incentive money is used to promote the continuous improvement of worker health and safety, and City of Vernon compliance with WSBC regulation.

The City of Vernon is one of only 19 local government organizations out of 541 organizations falling within the Local Government and Related Operations Classification Unit that have achieved and held COR certification.

The COR program was developed to encourage and reward employers who meet and exceed WSBC regulations by developing a strong Safety Management System (SMS) and strong healthy safety culture within their organizations.
