Rising from the ashes

An online auction is being organized to help a Lumby family who lost everything in a house fire on June 9.

The fire left the Ross family and a grandfather living in the basement suite of the house on Derry Lane “with nothing but the clothes on their back,” says Chauncey Jade, one of the auction's organizers.

While the grandfather has found a place to live, the family is said to be currently staying in a travel trailer on a friend's property. They are searching for accommodation in the Lumby area.

Jade says immediate needs for the family have been met and efforts are underway to help get them back on their feet.

“We are asking for items or services to be donated to be put up for auction. Anything would be greatly appreciated,” says Jade, who adds that 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the family. Items can be picked up.

The auction will be held via social media on Facebook called 'The Village of Lumby Standing Together' and will begin Friday, June 24 at 5 p.m. and end Monday, June 27, at 11 a.m.

To help out or get more information, contact Chauncey Jade on Facebook, by email: [email protected] or telephone 250-938-7716.

Launa Mattenley is available to pick up items from Vernon and can be reached at 778-212-8337.
