Driver hits cyclist, takes off

A man was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with undetermined injuries after a hit-and-run Monday morning.

The unidentified man was riding his mountain bike in the cycling lane southbound on 27th Street at 11:20 a.m. when he was struck by a passing motorist in front of Beairsto school.

The vehicle did not stop.

Vernon Fire Rescue Capt. Reinhard Mann said the cyclist was conscious when taken away by BC Ambulance crews.

Mann said the cyclist was “bleeding pretty good” from his head – he was not wearing a helmet – and also had slight abrasions on his arm and leg.

Police are investigating.
