Brazen bike thief sought

One of the reasons Tom likes living in B.C. so much is because the mountain biking is so great.

The second-year electrician apprenticed moved to Vernon from Ontario and is an avid downhill mountain bike rider.

But on Saturday, a brazen thief walked into his backyard and stole his prized ride.

Tom, who requested his last name not be used, has video of the suspect entering his 25th Street yard at 9:45 Saturday morning and then walking off with his $3,600 bike.

Stolen was a red black and white, full suspension 2011 Trek Session 8.

Tom usually keeps the bike inside, but on Saturday he left the bike unlocked in his backyard as he was planning to do some work on it before heading to Silver Star Sunday for some riding.

A thief had other plans.

Tom called the police and posted pictures and a surveillance video of the suspected thief on social media where he has received several tips.

“It has no chain or derailer. You can't ride it as it is. You can't pedal it away,” said Tom.

“It's one of the reasons I live in BC. It's part of my life. I don't have the money to buy another one.”

Anyone who spots the high-end bike is asked to contact Tom at 250-307-9004, the RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
