Happy trails

New heights were reached Monday evening thanks to a partnership between Vernon Toyota and the North Okanagan Cycling Society (NOCS).

Vernon Toyota has given NOCS a new trailer to haul all of their tools to and from the trailheads.

“This is huge” said society president, Matt Ball. “This trailer will allow us to bring all of the tools to trail building days, allowing more people to help out.”

Monday evening marked the sixth trail building day of the season.

Vernon Toyota manager, Kyle Johnson, came to the Sovereign Lake trail system to hand over the trailer and to help build a new trail called Raw Bones.

“A lot of our employees and their families enjoy area mountain bike trails, so it is a natural partnership” said Johnson.

“Ultimately, this trailer will allow us (NOCS) to have more effective trail building days, which translates into bigger and better trails” said Dudley Coulter, spokesperson for the society.

Currently, NOCS hosts trail building days every second Monday evening and once a month on a Saturday.

“Vernon has, for a long time, been known for excellent downhill mountain biking trails (at Silver Star), but is quickly becoming a staple B.C.’s cross country and all-mountain scene too” said Coulter.
