Fire victims get help

A family that lost a house to fire in Lumby this week is getting some help from the community.

The Derry Lane home received considerable damage on Thursday after a rifle was accidentally discharged in the house, setting gunpowder alight and starting the fire.

The family of four is now without a home and is staying temporarily with a relative, said Chauncey Jade, of Jiminy Crickets Daycare Centre.

"They're still processing what happened. They're in shock,” Jade said, adding that the two girls, five and seven, attend the daycare.

Efforts have begun to help the family out.

“We've had people donate gift cards, clothing, shoes and amenities,” said Jade.

Jade can be contacted on Facebook by those who would like to contribute.

The family doesn't really know yet where they will go or if a rental home can even be found in Lumby, so larger items are not being accepted yet, Jade explained.
