It's how they train on a regular basis, but the Pacific Regional Firefit competition gives dozens of firefighters a chance to show their skills and have some fun doing it.
Fiona Morgenthaler-Code, assistant chief with the Coldstream fire department, said the competition simulates actual training scenarios for firefighters.
“I train all the time,” said Morgenthaler-Code. “This is sort of my sport. There are some very high-end athletes here. Kamloops is the fastest team in the world.”
The individual events were held Saturday, with the team events going until 2 p.m. today at Vernon Toyota.
“There were lots of personal best times Saturday,” said Morgenthaler-Code.
This is the first time the Pacific Regional Firefit has been held in Vernon and it is a preparation event for the national competition in Spruce Grove, Alta. later this year.
