Donor challenge issued

A woman who's life was saved 10 years ago through organ donation is challenging residents of Greater Vernon to sign on to save a life.

“I received a liver from a 76-year-old donor,” Amanda Poch told Vernon council. “That is an amazing legacy to leave behind.”

Approximately 30 per cent of Vernon area residents are registered as organ donors which is higher than many other communities but Poch is hoping she can increase it more.

“I challenge the City of Vernon to raise their own community's organ donation rate to at least 50 per cent,” Poch said.

Poch said people can register online for organ donation at B.C. Transplant, the Kidney Foundation or her website.
