Pallet on road causes crash

A female motorcyclist was sent to hospital with a broken leg after hitting a wooden pallet in the northbound lane of Highway 97A, north of Swan Lake, on Tuesday morning.

RCMP Cpl. Kevin Kwast said the accident happened at around 10:50 a.m. near L&A Cross Road north of Vernon.

“She had a compound fracture to her leg,” said Kwast, adding the unidentified woman may have also broken her wrist.

A wooden pallet was laying on the road when the 58-year-old motorcyclist struck it, causing her to crash.

“There was another pallet that had fallen off further up the road,” said Kwast.

Police do not know where the pallet came from and anyone who may have witnessed a pallet falling from a vehicle is urged to call police.

Police checked vehicles at the Highway 97 weigh scales and found a vehicle carrying pallets, but Kwast said they did not match the pallets found on the road.
