Wayward budgie causes stir

The case of the wayward budgie has several Vernon residents uniting to capture the lost bird.

Cierra Carlyle posted on social media Sunday morning her dad spotted the green and yellow bird in a tree near the veterinarian clinic on Kal Lake Road.

“He flew away when my dad tried to catch him. Apparently he ate a lot from the bird feeder and may come back because he knows there's food. We will keep our eyes out for him,” Carlyle posted.

Several people have offered advice on how to catch the bird from spraying a hose to make the bird think it is raining so it won't fly away to setting up a cage with food in it and playing sounds of other budgies in the background.

In the quest to capture the lost bird, Crystal Mahlmann has set up a cage and food, but as of 4:30 p.m. the bird had yet to be captured.

“I can hear his chirping, but he seems to hang out on the other side of the cedar held on a business property,” posted Mahlmann who said she will keep up her efforts to capture the bird.
