Police are on the scene of what they say may have been a targeted drive-by shooting Saturday evening in Vernon.

Police are stationed outside a home behind Jim’s Pizza in the Mission Hill neighbourhood, on the 1600 block of 33rd Street.

RCMP officers on the scene confirm a shooting took place overnight and that someone was shot.

“In my experience shootings usually are targeted, but this is the very early stages of the investigation,” said an officer at the scene. “The investigation is ongoing.”

According to a neighbour in the area, three shots were heard sometime between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and police have been stationed there since.

“They woke us up at 3 a.m. to ask us questions,” says the neighbour who asked to remain anonymous.

“From what I've been told a 13 year old was struck in the arm and is in hospital.”

Police would not confirm the age or identity of the victim.

RCMP say there is currently no suspect in custody and the investigation is active.

Castanet will have more details as they become available.
